Aides to members of the Nigerian senate and House of Representatives, in the present day, stormed the Nationwide Meeting premises to protest the non-payment of their allowances and salaries amassed since the inception of the 8th meeting.
The aggrived aides had been seen chanting songs and holding placards with inscriptions, “we’re aides, not slaves.”
In an interview with newsmen, the chief of the protest, Nyakari-Abasi Etuk, mentioned they haven’t been paid Responsibility Tour Allowances (DTA) amongst others, since the inception of the 8th meeting.
”Some of us, they’re owing us up to one level one thing million and these are funds we use to go on errands and different miscellaneous issues. The final management of the nationwide meeting paid us up to date. We’re not speaking about coaching, the problem of coaching can also be there, we’re supposed to have 4 trainings in a 12 months. Ever since we began we have now not had coaching. The coaching that we had was sponsored by the Nationwide Meeting Service Fee. All we’re asking for is our entitlements. That is our plight, that is our concern. We’re telling everyone, in the present day is the resumption date and most of the aides, some have died, some don’t have cash to ship their youngsters to college. We’re calling on the management to be certain that our allowances are paid, to guarantee we gather our obligation tour allowances. Yearly, allocations and finances are given to the nationwide meeting which captures the legislative aides. So all we’re saying, all we’re asking for is for them to pay us. We’re over 3,000 legislative aides.” he mentioned
