INEC suspends Rivers State bye-election over violence

The Unbiased Electoral Fee has suspended the bye-election for the Port Harcourt Constituency lll State Meeting seat held on August 18 within the State.  

Obo Effanga, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, who introduced the suspension in an announcement on Saturday night time, cited widespread violence as causes for the suspension.  

The bye-election was carried out by INEC to fill the emptiness left by former state Assemblyman, Mr Victor Ihunwo, now Chairman, Port Harcourt Metropolis Native Authorities Space.

Effanga acknowledged that as a result of the train was marred by widespread violence, it was suspended in accordance with Part 26 of the Electoral Act 2010.  “INEC has determined to droop the election forthwith,’’ he mentioned however didn’t give a brand new date for the bye-election.
