A former police chief and two officers within the village of Biscayne Park in Miami are accused of framing a 16-year-old with a number of burglaries to meet a quota. In accordance to the Miami Herald, federal prosecutors stated the officers lied concerning the arrests to impress elected officers with crime statistics.
Former chief Raimundo Atesiano and officers Charlie Dayoub and Raul Fernandez arrested the juvenile in June 2013 and hatched a plan to body him. The teenager was referred to solely as “T.D.” within the indictment, CNN stories.
They allegedly created false stories to counsel the teenager broke into 4 unoccupied houses after that they had 4 unsolved robberies. In 2014, Atesiano resigned from his place. “The existence of this fictitious 100% clearance charge of reported burglaries was utilized by Atesiano to achieve favor with elected officers and anxious residents,” in accordance to the indictment.
Atesiano surrendered to authorities on Monday, CNN has reported, and his arraignment is scheduled for June 25. If convicted, he and the accused officers every face a most sentence of 11 years in jail.
