According to the news release from the Columbia County Sheriffs Office, Derrick says he heard noise downstairs, got his handgun from a dresser, then went downstairs.
The family dog’s barking led Derrick to the guest bedroom.
Derrick called out that he was armed and asked the suspected intruder to step out. Jordan didn’t say anything, but the dog kept barking. The dog eventually narrowed in on the guest bedroom closet. As Derrick got closer, Jordan ran out of the closet and Derrick opened fire.
Police arrived and found the 17-year-old dead in the foyer. No charges have been filed at this time.
Derrick’s 14-year-old daughter suck Jordan into the home in the middle of the night without his knowledge.
