Designer Preston Douglas is spilling the tee.
The Texas-based couturier is sick of feeling pushed to make inexpensive, throwaway streetwear pieces, such as hoodies and T-shirts.
“We are weighted down by having to sell T-shirts to make any money,” Douglas tells Paper magazine.
Branded T-shirts have become coveted pieces for penny-pinching fashion fans, who want to own pieces from a brand without shelling out for more high-end, conceptual styles.
So Douglas decided to take a stand against this with his new collection, titled Disintegration — via a body-swallowing T-shirt explosion.
The standout piece is a seven-layer hodgepodge of T-shirts — available in both green and blue — that decrease in size from 4XL to XS. The style is intended to look lifeless, he tells Paper.
At least he isn’t falling prey to the cheap T-shirt trend: The garment comes with a $419 price tag.
