Kartia Velino Feted by CIBWE – One of 100 Black Women to Watch in Canada 2016.
Hello my ever faithful and loyal friends. Welcome back to the amazing KV Blog. I have not had a chance to ask you about your thoughts on this amazing new site? I find it absolutely fascinating. I know I’m right because I have been getting lots of compliments from you guys. It has all kinds of contents from my regular blog, to events and of course it has shopping. Show me a person who doesn’t like shopping and I will show you one who is definitely not connected to the world. We all love to shop but just hope we can always strike the right balance and not shop more than we can truly afford right?
How is your summer going my friends? Can’t believe the month of June is already half way gone! But I am enjoying the sunshine and so should you. Don’t forget to use sun screen….a lot.
This last week was a week that will forever be a reference point in my life as a blogger and fashion designer. Yes, I received ‘the CIBWE Award’ tra la la! One of 100 Black Women to Watch in Canada 2016. It was a really big honour for me to know that I am recognized as a role model and icon in the fashion and design industry. That is just too cool. I am just excited beyond words.
This event was a two day expose of innovation and personal growth strategies for the business minded woman of 2016 and it was attended by a lot celebrities and dignitaries in Canada.
The Gala night was even more eventful. And it was my favourite segment because I have the added trill of being a fashionista, so I knew I needed to rock that red carpet and I certainly did!
It was such a privilege to meet Hon Celina Caesar-Chavannes, keynote speaker and Parliamentary Secretary to Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. She is also the Member of Parliament for Whitby Ontario. She is such an activist and philanthropist and really stood out in her Royal Blue and red floor length dress.
I carefully coordinated my outfit – a timeless baby pink drape elegant trailing outfit fit only for a diva, pun intended, designed under my Kartia Velino Collection label and aptly named ‘Rose Cathy’ after the Founder of 100 black women to watch in Canada Event; with my shoes by Gucci, and purse by Chanel It was like a dream come true for me – wearing my own label to receive this award. My friends!!!!, stop dreaming and follow your dream. I did. This ‘runway piece’ dress was sold that night….
I felt so accomplished as though the night was made for me alone. I felt myself not just reaching for the stars but actually grabbing a handful! The icing on the cake was the fact that the beautiful host of this gala night Angelina Williams wore a Kartia Velino Collection label- a beautiful asymmetrical Royal blue Wence dress, that truly caused heads to turn – and the crowd never took their eyes off of either her or her dress! So many guests were asking her ‘who’ she was wearing. I really felt honoured!
Tracy Barry, a lifestyle designer was among the award recipients for the night, she looked so stunning in a lace frosted evening dress.
Shelly Jarret the SMJ Magazine CEO and pioneer member of the CIBWE event wore a beautiful African print skirt. I was so privileged to meet so many great and accomplished women over this two day show.
My thanks go out to Rose Cathy Handy for this beautiful and amazing opportunity and also to those Canadians who nominated me.
More thanks again to my revered KV nation friends for following, liking, reading and sharing ‘me’ everywhere from the Blog to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Where would I be without my friends? Please don’t forget to share this post and ……. ¡hasta la vista! my friends …….. till the circle comes round….
